Plastic Injection Molding Materials

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
  • Opaque, amorphous themoplatics
  • Can be modified to improve impact and heat resistance
  • Low melting point
  • Inexpensive
Polyethylene (PE)
  • Lightweight
  • Chemical resistance
  • High Elasticity
  • Types of this plastic are high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Transparent amorphous thermoplastic
  • Extremely durable
  • Impact resistance
Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  • Also known as acetal, polyacetal, polyformaldehyde
  • Excellent rigidity, hardness and high strength
High Impact Polystyrene (PS)
  • General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS)
    color: transparent
  • High Impact Polystyrene
    color: opaque

  • Highly flammable but the grades used in injection molding are flame retardant
  • FDA grades are available for food containers
  • Low cost
Polypropylene (PP)
  • High melting point
  • Safe as food container, it doesn't leach chemicals into food
  • Excellent impact strength
Polyamide (Nylon)
  • High wear resistance.
  • High thermal stability.
  • Very good strength and hardness
